My name is Jennifer Zalewski, and I am an artist living in Central New York. I love to draw and my work focuses on the things I cherish most- wildlife, nature and our beloved pets. My own two crazy dogs and our local urban wildlife keep me endlessly inspired when I’m in and out of the studio!
I used to be the kind of person who strove for photo-realistic, representative pieces. I wanted every fur and whisker to be in the correct place on the paper. Nowadays, I don’t care about that sort of thing so much. I prefer to mull over an idea in my head and create a piece more organically/spontaneously, letting the paper and medium- pastel, colored pencil, charcoal, block prints, whatever-have as much say in the final product as I do. It has been -still is- a learning process.
Besides making art, I enjoy scouring the local library for new books (I love to read), hiking, camping, writing, learning guitar, studying theology, and hanging out with my two “roomies”, Lela and Joey!
